Shopping is conveniently located in Waimea ( Kamuela ) 15 miles east and in Kona 40 miles south of the Ranch. Hilo, the county government seat, is approximately 75 miles east and has large shopping malls. Many specialty shops can be found in the upscale hotels along the Kohala Coast.

Public schools are located nearby and two private schools, Hawaii Preparatory Academy and
Parker School, are in nearby Waimea.

Medical services are provided by many private physicians and dentists in the area and by North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea. Some specialty services are available in Honolulu, a 30-minute airplane ride away.

Many superb golf courses are a short drive away. White sand beaches can be found along the Kohala Coast. All water sports are available, including paddling, scuba, snorkeling and swimming.
